A task force of over 20 ships and more than 350 aircraft slipped out of Hitokappu Bay off the northern coast of Japan. Sadao Chigusa was a lieutenant commander on the destroyer Akigumo. The top-secret mission was intended to destroy the U.S. Navy and crush America's fighting spirit.
