Memories of the death of Richard, his childhood sweetheart, still haunt the war veteran Leonard to this day. Over the years, Leonard turns to alcohol to escape his pain and grief. Only his new friend Arthur manages, for a brief moment, to pull Leonard—who is inexplicably broken—out of his slump.
