The film portrays a middle-class Köpcke family. Father Nils Köpcke is a singer and funeral orator, mother Ulli Köpcke is a former dancer in Bayreuth and now a housewife. At the start of filming, the Köpcke children were still small, but now they are gradually growing up and going their own way.
