The Kobayakawa family lives in a grand mansion, yet their home life is bleak and joyless. Naoya leads a humdrum existence as a salaryman, while his wife, Keiko - unable to rely on him - works as an insurance agent. Their marriage has gone cold, and their daughter, Saori, is fed up with them both.
