Avi grew up in Givatayim where he had a typical Israeli childhood, for someone gay: social ostracism, scorn, loneliness and a double-life. At 17, he added nof (Hebrew for panorama) to his name and discovered gay society in the big city. At 19, he tested positive for HIV.
