Following his victory at Breitenfeld, King Gustaf Adolf captures Würzburg Castle, surviving a series of assassination plots orchestrated by Catholic monks. The pious Regina von Emmeritz is chosen to kill the "heretical king" but is instead disarmed by his profound nobility and goodness.
